This full-time position offers competitive salary of $49,000-$58,000 annually plus comprehensive benefits including 401(k) with company match, medical insurance, and professional development opportunities.

Position Summary – Horticulture Technician

The Horticulture Technician is responsible for ensuring personal safety and crew safety while upholding work schedules, standard procedures, and quality standards across landscape maintenance operations. This hands-on leadership role implements proper horticultural landscape maintenance activities on job sites while managing operations for optimal quality and efficiency.

Primary Goal: Safely maintain landscapes while leading team of crew members, ensuring sites remain in top condition, and making recommendations to Landscape Care Representatives for additional work proposals and improvements.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance:

  • Know and follow all company safety policies, personnel policies, and procedural guidelines ensuring safe work environment
  • Ensure proper securement of equipment at all times preventing accidents and equipment damage
  • Lead safety initiatives and model safe work practices for crew members

Team Leadership & Training:

  • Lead pre-job consultations with crew members to improve quality, efficiency, and understanding of job site requirements
  • Train team members in proper horticultural techniques, plant care methods, and landscape maintenance best practices
  • Maintain positive relationships with team members fostering collaborative, productive work environment
  • Track hours of self and crew members accurately by clocking in and out systematically

Client Communication & Site Management:

  • Communicate professionally with facility managers as needed addressing concerns and coordinating activities
  • Report all client communications to Landscape Care Representative ensuring information flow
  • Represent company with professionalism and maintain good public relations with clients and public
  • Make recommendations to Landscape Care Representative for additional work to be proposed based on site observations

Operational Excellence:

  • Safely and efficiently operate landscape equipment, power tools, hand tools, and specialized machinery
  • Recommend operational changes to Operations Managers to improve efficiency and work processes
  • Maintain clean and professional work sites reflecting company standards and professionalism
  • Ensure punctuality of start and end times, break periods, and lunch schedules maintaining productivity

Horticultural Activities:

  • Install plant material including trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals following proper planting techniques
  • Install softscape items such as mulch, soil amendments, and groundcovers
  • Perform pruning, trimming, fertilizing, pest control, and seasonal maintenance activities
  • Monitor plant health, identify diseases and pests, and implement appropriate treatments
  • Execute irrigation management and water conservation practices

Flexibility & Adaptability:

  • Adapt to various working situations including changing weather, site conditions, and client requirements
  • Perform additional required and incidental activities as assigned by supervisors
  • Adjust schedules and priorities based on seasonal demands and operational needs

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior horticulture experience is preferred demonstrating knowledge of plant care, landscape maintenance, or grounds management
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities required for client interaction, team coordination, and reporting
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills to coordinate multiple sites, crew schedules, and project deadlines
  • Adaptability: Strong adaptability skills to handle varying conditions, client needs, and seasonal changes
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record mandatory for equipment transport and site travel

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • College Degree or Certificate in Horticulture, Landscaping, Turf Management, or related field preferred but not necessary
  • Continuing education or professional certifications in horticulture advantageous
