About the Agriculturist Role

The purpose of the Agriculturist position is to support the efficient planting, growing, harvesting, receiving, and storage of sugar beets. Working closely with growers, researchers, and internal teams, the Agriculturist helps reduce storage losses while increasing sugar yield and long-term sustainability.

Agriculturists are actively involved in innovation, environmental stewardship, equipment improvements, training programs, and safety initiatives, all aligned with the Cooperative’s mission to strengthen the agricultural supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

1. Grower Support & Agricultural Consulting

  • Serve as the main point of contact between shareholders and the Cooperative

  • Coach growers on improving sugar beet quality and yield

  • Assist with contracting acres, variety selection, and seed distribution

  • Recommend pesticides and monitor fertility programs

  • Observe planting, harvest, and delivery operations

2. Field Monitoring & Agronomy Oversight

  • Scout and monitor contracted fields for pests, disease, and agronomic risks

  • Conduct field evaluations using modern agronomy best practices

  • Organize and manage variety strip trials with growers

  • Ensure accurate sampling for quality analysis

  • Communicate research results to growers and internal stakeholders

3. Storage & Environmental Monitoring

  • Monitor designated sugar beet storage piles and assess crop condition

  • Submit weekly storage reports to the Agricultural Superintendent

  • Perform required environmental inspections

  • Complete and submit environmental compliance reports

4. Employee & Seasonal Workforce Management

  • Assist with hiring and training seasonal receiving station employees

  • Provide leadership on safety, environmental, and operational standards

  • Monitor performance to ensure beets meet long-term storage requirements

  • Reduce receiving station interruptions and improve operational efficiency
