Essential Duties & Responsibilities
As Horticulture Supervisor at San Manuel, your responsibilities include:
Team Leadership & Quality Management
- Provide guidance, training, and direction to Interior Gardeners and Floral Designers ensuring quality and aesthetic standards
- Visually inspect all indoor gardens, plants, and floral arrangements daily to ensure conditions meet appearance standards
- Ensure all designs meet quality and aesthetic standards and meet or exceed guest expectations
- Ensure daily and weekly routine tasks and schedules are completed by assigned team members
- Maintain clean and attractive indoor gardens and floral arrangements throughout property
Special Projects & Seasonal Decoration
- Oversee various special projects and seasonal decoration initiatives
- Manage plant and floral change-outs throughout the property based on seasons and special events
- Coordinate large-scale floral installations and themed decorations
- Plan and execute holiday decorating programs and special event floral displays
Budget Management & Operations
- Ensure all floral arrangements are within allocated budgets
- Meet deadlines for all floral requirements and special requests
- Oversee planning, project coordination, and scheduling of horticulture operations
- Manage purchase and replacement of equipment to support departmental operations
Communication & Facility Management
- Communicate important matters involving personnel and facilities to Horticulture management in timely manner
- Maintain cleanliness and order in all public and common work areas
- Inspect work areas to identify potential safety hazards
- Follow all enterprise and department safety policies and job-specific procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Conduct interviewing, hiring, and training of employees in accordance with organizational policies
- Plan, assign, review, and direct work for Interior Gardeners and Floral Designers
- Evaluate and appraise employee performance, provide rewards and discipline as appropriate
- Address employee complaints and resolve workplace problems effectively
- Make hiring decisions and design individual development plans with succession planning for key roles
Education, Experience & Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this horticulture supervisor position must meet:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Hospitality, or related field
- Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements
Professional Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in interior landscape required
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience leading teams preferred
- Hands-on experience with indoor plant maintenance, floral design, and interior gardens
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience in methods and techniques of ground maintenance, horticulture, floral and interior design preferred
- Knowledge of plant nutrition requirements for various interior plants
- Knowledge of environmental requirements for various interior plants including light, water, temperature, and humidity needs
- Must be able to follow safety guidelines when using required chemicals, equipment, tools, and techniques
Licenses & Certifications
- Gaming license may be required at discretion of San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as determined by insurance carrier (Authorized Driver role)
- Role requires operation of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
This position requires:
- Primary work environment in climate-controlled office and indoor property settings
- Travel required to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences
- Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required
- Must work in fast-paced, high-demand hospitality environment
- Strength to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and move up to 40 pounds occasionally
- Physical activities including balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping
- Hearing sufficient for conversational levels in person, via videoconference, and over telephone
- Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in meetings and presentations
- Close visual acuity for computer work, data analysis, and visual inspection
- Mobility to safely move in property environment, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and operate vehicles
- Endurance to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods throughout entire work shift
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or secondhand smoke
