As Agricultural Scientist in Newark, Delaware, your responsibilities include:
Experiment Planning & Conduct
- Plan and conduct experiments for herbicide development in greenhouse, growth chamber, and outdoor field environments
- Design experimental protocols following GLP standards and scientific rigor
- Manage multiple simultaneous experiments with different crop species and herbicide treatments
Plant Propagation & Preparation (REQUIRED EXPERIENCE)
- Perform plant propagation including seeding, transplanting, and vegetative propagation
- Conduct plant sorting, staging, and preparation of experimental test units
- Maintain plant health and ensure uniform growth conditions for reliable experimental results
Herbicide Formulation & Application
- Prepare experimental variables including herbicide formulations
- Perform serial dilutions to achieve precise herbicide concentrations
- Conduct herbicide spray applications using specialized equipment
- Calibrate application equipment ensuring accurate dosage delivery
Bioassays & Data Collection
- Implement bioassays and screening protocols to evaluate herbicide efficacy
- Assess crop tolerance to herbicide treatments
- Collect, analyze, and interpret biological data including weed control ratings, crop injury assessments, and yield data
- Prepare summaries and reports for project teams presenting findings
Collaboration & Project Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage project timelines and resources
- Coordinate with research scientists, technicians, and regulatory specialists
- Communicate experimental progress and results effectively
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with GLP standards, safety protocols, and research guidelines
- Properly dispose of unused or poor-quality bioassays
- Manage disposal of regulated plant species according to safety requirements
- Follow pesticide handling and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this agricultural scientist position must possess:
Educational Requirements (REQUIRED)
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Plant Science, Agronomy, Weed Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field
Knowledge & Understanding
- Basic understanding of agriculture, food production, and crop protection
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in research or laboratory environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry, analysis, and reporting
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MS) in Plant Science, Agronomy, Weed Science, Horticulture, or related field
- Knowledge of weed identification and herbicide application methods
