Spinneys, the UAE’s leading premium food retailer, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Officer to join our Food Manufacturing division. This vital role focuses on ensuring effective implementation of our Food Safety Management System (FSMS), supporting compliance activities, and maintaining exceptional product and process quality aligned with regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Position Summary – Quality Assurance Officer
The Quality Assurance Officer plays critical role in our Food Manufacturing division, implementing and maintaining comprehensive Food Safety Management System (FSMS), monitoring production processes, conducting quality investigations, delivering food safety training, and supporting audit activities. This hands-on position combines technical expertise with operational involvement ensuring consistent quality and safety across all manufacturing operations.
Organizational Structure & Reporting
Reports Directly To: Quality Assurance Manager (Factories)
Works Closely With: QA Technologists, QC Officers, Production Teams, Hygiene Supervisors
Collaborates With: Production departments, suppliers, third-party service providers, regulatory authorities
Key Responsibilities & Core Functions
FSMS Monitoring & Compliance:
- Monitor and verify production processes ensuring adherence to specifications, procedures, and quality standards
- Verify Critical Control Points (CCPs) monitoring, documentation, and corrective actions within HACCP system
- Inspect hygiene practices, sanitation procedures, and personnel compliance with food safety requirements
- Ensure Food Safety Management System (FSMS) compliance throughout manufacturing operations
Quality Issue Investigation & Resolution:
- Investigate quality issues, product non-conformances, and process deviations systematically
- Handle customer complaints professionally, conducting thorough investigations and root cause analyses
- Implement corrective actions addressing immediate issues and preventive actions preventing recurrence
- Track effectiveness of corrective/preventive actions through verification and monitoring
Training & Development:
- Conduct internal training sessions on food safety, HACCP principles, GMP, and hygiene practices
- Deliver induction programs for new staff covering food safety requirements and quality procedures
- Provide ongoing training for existing staff on updated procedures, regulations, and best practices
- Develop training materials, presentations, and job aids supporting effective learning
Audit Participation & Risk Assessment:
- Participate actively in internal audits verifying compliance with FSMS and quality standards
- Support external audits including certification audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections
- Conduct health and safety risk assessments identifying hazards and implementing controls
- Participate in mock recall exercises testing traceability systems and emergency response procedures
Documentation & SOP Management:
- Collaborate with production teams and QA Technologists updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain and update process flowcharts, HACCP plans, and operational documentation
- Develop and revise training materials ensuring accuracy and relevance
- Maintain accurate documentation including food safety reports, non-conformance records, cleaning schedules, and meeting minutes
Supplier & Third-Party Coordination:
- Coordinate with suppliers addressing quality issues, specification compliance, and improvement initiatives
- Work with third-party service providers including laboratories, pest control, and maintenance ensuring quality alignment
- Verify supplier documentation, certificates, and quality assurance standards
- Support supplier approval and monitoring processes
Hygiene Support & Food Safety Initiatives:
- Provide support to Hygiene team during Hygiene Supervisor absence ensuring continuity
- Assist in driving food safety awareness initiatives throughout manufacturing facility
- Promote food safety culture through communication, engagement, and leadership
- Monitor cleaning effectiveness and sanitation compliance
Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
- Submit comprehensive weekly reports on quality performance, issues, and initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in product quality and process efficiency
- Identify opportunities for quality system enhancements and operational improvements
- Support implementation of quality improvement projects and initiatives
Required Qualifications & Experience
Educational Background (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or other relevant scientific field from accredited university
- Strong academic foundation in food safety, microbiology, and quality assurance principles
Professional Experience (Essential):
- Minimum 2 to 4 years of proven professional experience in quality assurance role specifically within food manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience implementing FSMS, conducting audits, and managing quality documentation
- Demonstrated experience investigating quality issues and implementing corrective actions
Essential Knowledge & Technical Skills
- HACCP Expertise: Strong understanding of HACCP principles, hazard analysis, CCP determination, monitoring procedures, and verification activities
- GMP Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices including hygiene, sanitation, and operational standards
- Food Safety Regulations: Thorough understanding of UAE food safety regulations, SFDA requirements, and international standards
- Risk Assessment: Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies identifying hazards and implementing control measures
- Training Capabilities: Proven ability to train and guide operational teams on food safety and hygiene protocols effectively
